  • Let's Get Digital! Funded by AT&T

Hooray! AT&T just fully-funded the Let's Get Digital! EHMS's library project [submitted by Mrs. Denise Young] by purchasing ten Chromebooks for exclusive use in the library and wrote:

"In honor of Veteran’s Day, AT&T is proud to support this project and military-connected students across the country as part of AT&T Aspire, the company's signature education initiative. Through projects like this one, we are getting closer to our goal of helping more students graduate from high school ready to succeed in the 21st century workforce."

Let's Get Digital! -- Students come in every day needing help to find online resources they need to complete the Learning Design Collaborative projects for their classes. Our students are eager to learn & explore new things. They enjoy the Learning Design Collaborative because it allows them to work with other students and to stretch their minds to those higher order thinking skills that are essential in the 21st century. Our school is working to try to provide these students with the tools that can assist them in expanding their minds and giving them the opportunities to learn, grow and be successful citizens.  Having the Chromebooks available to students in the library media center gives those students who do not have access to electronic devices at home a chance to explore, research and see all the possibilities available beyond this small community. The library media center is available to students after school with a certified librarian to assist them in conducting research, learning how to use a variety of apps and to explore the world. In addition to assignments/projects in their core classes, students will use the Chromebooks to learn about Cyber Citizenship, Safety and Responsibility in a series of classes. Each grade level participates in four separate classes during the year, ranging from cyber-bullying, safe talk online, scams/schemes, strategic searching, identifying high quality sites, creator's rights/responsibilities to gender stereotypes online.

The lives of all of our students will improve by opening to them a wealth of information and skills that they will need to be successful in college and in life.

It will affect their academic life, but also their ability to collaborate effectively, to communicate with a wide range of people, to understand how they can protect themselves and to learn how to be a productive and responsible citizen. Having these tools increases the students' self-esteem by knowing that people feel they are worthy.
